GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organism. The government has their own Genetic Modification Regulations that define GM as,”the altering of the genetic material in that organism in a way that does not occur naturally by mating or natural recombination or both” This type of procedure is an unlabeled laboratory-created procedure that is on the grocery shelves everywhere. For example non-GMO breeding would allow apples to mix with other types of apples, but not with soybeans. GMO breeding would breed soy nuts with cashews and if a person thought they were eating soy nuts and they were allergic to cashews, that could be serious. GMO would breed unrelated species which would never cross breed naturally.
