Dairy or lactose intolerance is the body's inability to digest lactose. Lactose is a natural sugar which is found in milk, cheese, and butter. Lactose intolerance is cause by a lack of the lactase enzyme. Lactase breaks down the sugar in milk into simple sugars (glucose and galactose) which are absorbed into the bloodstream.

Common symptoms of dairy or lactose intolerance can include: bloating, gas, cramps, and nausea. The dairy intolerance symptoms range greatly among each individual from mild to severe cases. There are many factors contributing to the severity of the symptoms, including a person's tolerance to dairy or lactose, a person's age, digestion rate, and ethnicity.

The body can usually tolerate butter better than milk or cheese. Goat’s milk has a little less lactose than cow’s milk. Cottage cheese has only two per-cent lactose and can often be better tolerated. Although, Live yogurt has no lactose. It has all been digested and converted into lactic acid by the lactase. Live yogurt helps to put friendly bacteria back into the stomach.
