Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition which causes a person to feel long-term fatigue (6 months to a year). Symptoms vary accordingly to the individual, although exhaustion is the biggest complaint. Other symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are sleep disorders, inability to concentrate, muscle pain, headaches, memory problems. Short-term memory seems to be effected, although long-term is not.
The cause of CFS is unknown, but the condition may be related to the immune system. Some believe that people with CFS may have had a previous infection, and the fatigue continued after the person recovered from the illness.
Nutrition can play an important part in controlling the CFS symptoms. It is very common for people with chronic fatigue syndrome to have developed intolerances to certain foods such as dairy products and wheat. Also, an intolerance towards alcohol and caffeine is also very frequent.
